Pardon me for asking but what does " Gone Gold " means?

Now, someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think 'going gold' officially means that the first 250,000 copies have been made, right? I'm not sure if the music industry's 'gold' is the same as the gaming industry's. |
YES! YES! YES! OMG YES!!!!!!!!
Oooops, got a little overexcited there |

For the gaming industry "Gold" means that the developer is officially done with the game and has sent the Gold copy of the game to the publisher for replication. Chances are the boxes and manuals have already been in production and all the publisher has to do is copy the CD's and stuff the boxes. Usually it's a week to 2 weeks between going gold and the game hitting the shelves, it depends on the size and resources of the publisher. And since Infogrames is so big, I'm hoping the delay will only be 1 week. |
Due on NZ shelves on the 25th of June
