The official statement from Iraq is that these are repatriated bodies from the Iran-Iraq war which were being stored pending the creation of an official military grave.

Believe it not, these transfers were *still* taking place up to the start of the war (No love lost between those two countries) and in January, the 'last official' POW's from that war were repatriated.

It is a plausible explanation that requires investigation with the help of Iran.

That doesn't really explain the scraps of republican guard uniforms found with some of the dead, records found that provide names of a lot of the victims, detail the executions, the tortures and dismemberment in some cases...or the photos of those killed though. I don't buy it, given what the British have reported finding.

Yes it is horrific.

I seriously doubt it would be a set up. I mean according to what I am hearing this is people killed during the 91 failed uprising. That is fact and well known by about every one in the world. I see no reason to plant evidence about the brutality from the failed uprising. Just would not make much sense.

I just heard the Lawyer that helped free Pvt. Lynch telling coalition forces horrible stories. Women who were trying to wave down airplanes from above were shot in the head. They are killing plenty of civilians right now so I see no reason to plant anything. The regime mass murdering their own people and the burtality is factual. What would be the point of some fake crematory from the 91 uprising? We have tapes from that time of them murdering people so...

After all I've seen since I posted this, I don't think it is any kind of set up...I just thought it weird how they went on and on about telling of its discovery, almost demanding that people believe that the deaths weren't recent long before they told/showed the other details...it was too early still I guess.

What an ugly mess, I feel sorry for those people that have to deal with it and for those whose family members were killed...provided their families are even still alive to find out what happened to their loved ones. :(

I heard about the women being killed for waving...there aren't words to describe how that makes me feel for the Iraqi people...who among us can truly understand the kind of terror that they have been living in? May God have enough mercy on us that we never have to find out.

Here's an interesting twist:

"Human remains found in an abandoned Iraqi military base are those of Iranian soldiers killed in the Iran-Iraq war, an Iranian general has said.

Brigadier-General Mirfeisal Baqerzadeh said the bodies were discovered at the base near al-Zubayr in southern Iraq recently after a joint search operation between the two countries.

But, he said, the current conflict had meant arrangements to return the bodies to Iran had been put on hold."

Of course we are. But since you had brought up the issue about what we are to call you, I thought it only respectful to settle the matter in this thread.

Earlier I saw the scrolling marquee on CNN reading that Iran is saying that those bodies belong to that country. Does this mean that no one has to answer for the way that some of them were killed (because they were killed in war between the countries)?

Every country has had soldiers commit such crimes in one fashion or another.

Lil Lil 04-06-2003 09:24 PM

I understand that but records were kept of the things that some of these people went through before they died. Not all of them were just shot in the head.

How sad to just hand the pieces of their bodies back and forget it ever happened, esp when some of the records reportedly record photos/documentation of tortures using chemicals and dismemberment. If anyone who did this is still alive, they should be held accountable.
