Thoran - Aye, all the great empires in their lifetimes have had their fair share of critics. The Romans, Greeks, Egyptians, Germans, French, English, China etc all at one time had such profound impact on today's modern world.
That's because they developed a huge infrastructure or languages or economy etc. But with that comes resentment to those people who either coveted or wanted to destroy it. You're right though on Israel. If it didn't exist, the Arab countries would be squabbling over something else (most likely oil rights). If you get a chance, watch Lawrence of Arabia. Excellent movie which shows just how divided and mistrustful the various Arab factions were. Israel is just a convenient scapegoat for the Arab world to pick on. From what I see, a lot of Arab nations really don't give that much support to Palestinians. With the US being the only superpower left, it's an easy country to pick on. If Angola or Bangledesh became a superpower, we'd all be picking on them and declaring them "Imperialists" [ 02-19-2003, 12:36 AM: Message edited by: Wutang ] |
