Whoa, this is what it feels like for my government to be dissed by Edward Scissorhands.
Good for him! I like this part: Quote:

My first reaction was to think. "He shouldn't have said this just after gaining some popularity, he's going to be losing some money there." |
I for one, will not boycott his DVD (saw PotC twice!). At least, since he didn't like it here, he had the good grace to leave, unlike others that just threatened to (cough, Alec Baldwin, cough)! He has every right to say what he wants, just like Alec does. But at least he does what he says (unlike Alec).

I read an interview with him where he explained that he was being interviewed by a German paper, and that his quote was taken out of context, and that he never meant to say anything against the U.S., like the reporters made it out to be, and that he apologized for the misunderstanding of his comment. After thinking about it and looking at what he said...I am not bothered by it at all. So we are a dumb puppy that can bite hard. I kinda like that analogy! Grrrr! :D

Dumb puppy is a fine analogy. I have personally used rebellious adolescent bully in describing the attitude of the American nation, but puppies are cuter. We are young, we still make mistakes, our idealism has not been jaded like Europe's. Our population is immature, as is our government. We are the home of liability for injury to a burgler falling through a skylight, we are the country of me me me, either we are politically too immature to allow drinking ages to be lowered to a credible level (erm... like 17) or our population is too immature to drink at the age other people in the world do, we are bling bling, we are flash, we are Fanta Fanta girls in skimpy outfits hanging on Joe Millionaire and modelling in Maxim magazine maximizing the most of their 15 minutes. We gave Andy Dick a decent job. We are immature, we are a puppy.
I'm over it. Howabout you? |
Nice summation TL - well thought out, insightful, and not something that would have people openly branding you as ignorant and dismissing you. Mind you - if you were an actor instead of a lawyer .......

Again TL - I can agree with that as well (let's not anyone see this as becoming a habit ;) ). One is never expected to listen and agree to everyone else's opinions, but seeing ideas offhandedly branded as ignorant because they are different or because they "come from actors" is what drew me to this discussion.

I didn't advocate that. All I suggested was that too many people give too much credence to what actors have to say. Quote:
