Brazil also probably wants a few of its own geostationary satellites to hunt for precious metals and minerals...much easier than slogging through the jungle on foot....satellites are wonderful things....if you can afford them.

This is exactly what I'm talking about. Big countries like Brazil or India want to be global players and therefore politically and economically independent. This is not about exploring space it's about exploring earth From space. May it be for finding resources in your own country, for monitoring the weather or other activities.
