I take your point - but as far as I can see, you feel that no part of the body is off limits (well, apart from the obvious place) as long as the level of force and/or implement is appropriate to the part of the body that is being struck. The problem with multi-optioning is that I can't list every conceivable option - so I had to generalise. There was no intention to 'box' anyone in a particular category, good or bad.

By the way, the point about administering punishment in a ceromonial manner does have merit - I've seen many parents administer punishment without thinking, often as a result of fear/shock (little johnny runs to cliff edge without knowing the danger - clearly distressed parent jerks him back and smacks him without a word of explanation).
