the advantage of legalising it is that you can regulate it. If you make mandatory ages, and force doctor's exams, and generally regulate it (as is done in the Netherlands and Nevada)

And as of a month ago, NEW ZEALAND! Woo Hoo! </font>
Purpose of the Trip: Pleasure :D :D :D

Puritans, thought-police, moralists, prudes. Should I go on?

Although most American cities have an underground escort industry that are very successful at evading the law, so the laws are not only futile, but a waste of money.
If this fellow had picked up the right free newpaper, he coulda had a "model" "dance" for him and probably avoided this mess.

It is blood-boiling that the church is quick to fire this guy but spenbt years coddling pedophiles. They deserve to get sued back to the stone age.

Here in Mass they won't even prosecute the Bishops and such who coddled the pedo-priests. They say because of "lax" laws. I think the church has some friends in high places to get away with this evil without criminal prosecution.

And yet, as I recall, isn't "sodomy" still listed in the law books as a crime? One of those really old laws that nobody bothers to change or pay much attention to.

In Texas it's apparently still legal to kill an Indian as long as you're in a covered wagon.

Maybe if I get me a covered wagon and mosey up to Massatwoshits I can shoot me up some kiddy fiddlers...?

Canada's even weirder. Prostitution itself is not illegal, but you can't be part of a brothel, solicit prostitution, or live solely off the benefits of prostitution (ie, can't put on your tax return, "Prostitute" as occupation ;) )
In Italy it's the same. The reason why? Allowing the religious and the prudes to say that prostitution is a crime, but also allowing a bit of leeway if you are caught with a prostitute: it isn't considered a crime.
The result? prostitutes get exploited by pimps, are underage and illegal immigrants, have no medical guarantees and so on. But they still roam the roads because what they offer is in great demand, and will always be.
There are many who voice the abolition of the Merlin law (which in the 50's abolished brothels), but it will never be done: in the USA you have conservative republicans and cannot even teach evolution theories. Here in Italy we can teach evolution theories, but we have a Pope who will never allow common sense to take over.
