Save the money, untill you can afford a whole system. You can buy a reasonbly fast modern computer for around $1,000 US.

KG2? Go with a new CPU and mobo, but spend some $$$ on the mobo to get a decent one. I like ASUS, but everyone's different. I doubt the mobo you have now, supports even ATA66 for hard drives, so your prob stuck at 33 not even close to the 100 or 133 that new drives are. The drives are backwards compatible, but you'd lose a lot of performance. If your on a limited budget, pour most of your cash into the mobo, making sure that you can run up to at least 1.3GHZ, but save some cash by going with a 800 or 900 Duron, if AMD's your thing. When your wallet opens up a bit, grab the HD then upgrade the proc to the most your board can handle. Welcome to the never ending money pit of computers

Ok, her's what you need to do. Upgrade your whole computer if you can. But if your computer can alreday handle the games, and the new tech games that are coming/came out then get a new hd.. It slows you down tremendously. Trust me...used to have one :\

Some settings are for the entire IDE port, therefore the settings will only go as fast as the slowest device on the cable. That's why you should never put your HDD and CD ROM on the same cable.

Not to be depressing, but if a "new" cpu is a Duron 900, and your current HD is a 4.1 gig, then I'd say you need to upgrade both. For $100-$150 you could get a newer 1.3 ghz Duron and a 20 gig hd easily. Check out this site for some good prices.
