OK, I know there is a post about this already (ie the Ohno post), but I couldn't bring myself to post there. Just had to shout it from the tree tops - the topic just deserved a better headline didn't it :D .

Sorry if I'm invading the Aussie party...but I bring good tidings and congratulations!! I just read the story on Bradbury and the bad luck and injuries he has had over the years (life threatening, nonetheless!). Sounds like his medal is well-deserved, and that is even an added bonus with it being Australia's first winter Olympic gold! Wanted to share this humorous tidbit out of a story I read: Bradbury is part-owner of a company that manufactures speed skating boots, including those worn by Ohno. He e-mailed the American on Friday, asking Ohno if he won a medal to mention the company’s name. “I guess I don’t need him to do that now,” Bradbury said. LOL, how's that for irony? Speed skating is unpredictible, but that makes it all the more fun to watch. Again, Congratulations! |
The Assuies have a gold!! How cute!! ;)

Especially since our siblings (70 million of them) in that rainy cold island on the other side of the world, hasn't done so yet :D Last count I checked Norway (4 million people) was on top of the gold medal tally with 7 Gold, followed by Germany (5) Russia (4) and the USA (3). That means a nation of 280 Americans, most of whom have grown up with waaay more snow/ice exposure than the 20 million Aussies, have only 2 Gold medals more!!! We all know it's about Gold medals. (That's what Aussie tallys have always been based on) Silver schmilver. Winning isn't everything. It's the only thing :D :D :D [ 02-17-2002: Message edited by: Yorick ]
|

The fact that your team has 16 medals is interesting, but is really rather irrelevant to the topic. Well done for you, but WE HAVE A GOLD!!!!! This isn't like the Olympic swimming pool, where our 2 nations are now so clearly the competing super powers. This is about some poor guy who was in the world top ten through the past 2 Olympics and (I believe) 10 world championships. This is about the guy who if anything good looked like happening managed to crash out or get injured in training. This is about an ASTONISHING run of luck that got him through the quarters, semis and finals and gifted him with a most unlikely gold medal. You GR can celebrate your 16 or 18 and the many more to come. I will still celebrate the one that means most to me. |
I think if the two blokeys from the curling had done their sweepy thing in front of the guy in second place he would have still won the gold I must say the long shot of the others trying to get up was hillarious reminded me of Donut and myself coming home after Botham won the ashes...SLIDE CHARLIE BROWN SLIDE :D

The Northeast is very heavily populated. |
