*HUGS* TheDutkanator, my thoughts fly to you and your kid.
Don't lose hope, though, a child's progress are not smooth and linear, but happen like jumps. I've got a son, and how many times have I got the impression that nothing new happened, and then one day, it was as if something just clicked inside him, and he just did something new and wonderful. He was 6 months late to walk, and now he runs like a rabbit ... Deux-Cent-Cinquante, wow, what a post ! http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/No...ons/icon14.gif You are truly a jewel of this Board, friend. ------------------ http://www.ot-nancy.fr/photos_ot/m_office_exterieur.jpg http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/hero2.gif The world is my oyster ! |
I hope your son will be okey, my nephew was like that couldn't talk or walk till he was 14 months old, then all of a sudden he did both in less than 3 months, we couldn't believe it and it was simply great.
Don't loose hope yet, and keep the faith. |
TheDutkanator...Like many have said here already. You can't go by the charts or by the average. My son Dustin was a slow developer too. But you should see him now. He is 165lbs of raw muscle and plays DB on the local HS football team. Take heart in the stories told to you here. I know it won't aleviate the fear, but it can help to lighten the load. We all fear for our children at one time or another, believe me. All we can do is love them, encourage them and wait for them to develope in their own time. Once he does start to move about under his own power you will long for the days when you could put him down and still find him where you left him when you turned back. Children are amazing and frightening critters. You will see. The day will come when you want nothing more than to pick them up and hold them close. To feel their little arms wrapped half around your neck and squeezing as tightly as they can, but barely hard enough to cause you trouble breathing. Those won't be around for long. Most of the time you will be amazed at how fast they grow and how little time you have with them.
Please keep us informed. God Bless and give the wee one a hug from us all. ------------------ http://members.hometown.aol.com/wulf...ages/crest.gif The line between good and evil is razor sharp. Be careful of misteps, lest you find yourself spitted upon your own blade. |
I know you are worried and fearful, Dukenator. That's a horrible thing, to feel helpless against something that might harm your child. It sounds as if you won't know for sure just yet if it is a serious problem and I pray that it is not. I'd say try not to worry, but of course we know you will anyway. http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif Think I'll take a cue from Yorkick and offer *hugs*.

All parents are deeply fearful of something being wrong with their child, Duktanor. Mostly the fears are unfounded. Sometimes they are real. None of us can say which is the case with your son.
But my eldest child could barely stand when she was a year old, and she was almost 18months before she could walk without holding on. Winston Churchill (British ww2 prime minister) could not talk until he was 2 years old so far as I have heard. As others have said, children develop at different rates. Your son may just be developing a little more slowly than the majority. Take heart! ------------------ http://www.angelfire.com/mi4/hclark50/flojs_14783.gif Proud to be Dubbed Queen of the Illuminati by Diogenes. |
Well, Dutkanator, all I can offer you is my prayers and (((HUGS))).
That and the echo of others here, children all grow and learn at different rates. I suggest you take that book with the charts and graphs and SMACK that doctor with it! http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...miles/wink.gif It'll make you feel better. http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif j/k Seriously, they thought something was wrong with my cousin at first, only to find out that he didn't speak intelligibly until he was five out of an attack of the lazies! Seems the lady who kept him during the day let him get away with pointing at something and grunting and she would get it for him instead of making him ask for it. Once we found that out, we just refused to respond to him if he didn't use real words. Amazing how fast he 'learned' to talk, then. http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...miles/wink.gif Not that your situation is the same, just showing that there may be many OTHER reasons your son is where he is right now. I was a Pre-K teacher and saw a broad range of ability levels in the children I taught. None less able to learn and grow than the next, just on different levels of development. Your son should be fine and is probably just in a slow period, then he'll spurt up again and you'll wonder why you ever worried. http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif Another example of growth spurts: When I was in 11th grade, many of the 9th grade boys were MUCH shorter than I was (and I'm only 5'4" now). In ONE year, they grew to 5'10" to 6'2". It was amazing! http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif Keep your spirits up, hon, and know that our hearts go out to you. *hugs* ------------------ http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...dragonmage.gif http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/hero2.gif Alureth...Dragon friend of Breanna, Mage and Advisor in the Court of Lady Lioness Co-Owner/Operator of the Evil Petting Zoo and devout member of the HADB clan.
