I hate my computer too, It's a Compaq Presario, I lovingly term it, the Comcrap Prettysorry O. It runs slower than it's clocked at, the ram is faulty. it's got more programming bugs in the OS than AOL has, because ComPaQ just HAD to have a modified OS and BIOS. Well, it's gonna realize it's a POS and commit suicide from the 3rd story of my dorm building as soon as I buy it's replacement

It's been a while since I've run 98, but it sounds like a hardware issue (your sound doesn't work) It would be helpful to know your exact configuration. The error message you received when trying to unpack the zip is consistant with a bad archive. Download again and use Winace to unzip it. Try using System File Checker under MSCONFIG. That'll tell you if you have any missing or corrupt system files. If none of that works, well......NUKE AND PAVE! Good luck

I don't mean top insult you, but you said you put it together. Some hardware just doesn't play nice with others, especially sound cards as they are notorious resource hogs. The error message you rec'vd when trying to unpack gatekeeper is consistant with a bad archive, ie: a bad download. Erase all traces of the original download and try it again from a different source. If your using dial up don't do anything while it's downloading; leave it be and try again

I forgot to mention under the run command type msconfig. look for system file checker under that menu and run it. It'll check all the dll's and correct any errors you may have

I'm glad I don't have enough hair to get a good hold of(thanks to the military), because I'd be pulling the whole lot of them out ;)
