Moni, I'm generally quite practical about that sort of thing and have fitted my own spotlights/switches that sort of thing (although downstairs, on a circuit that is still working, so it's not my tinkering that has done it! LOL!!) but I think this one might be beyond my skills... Don't want to start a fire by doing a botch job or anything.

Then maybe you need some new wiring.? Should be a fairly cheap job for the electrician (20 minutes per outlet tops).

Tremble and despair, for I am power! All here are now judged, and are found wanting.

Cheers Milamber - that's a much better size for my monitor - still just as cool though!

LZ - my main problem is I don't have a regular electrician (haven't needed one before) so it's finding a reputable one that is going to be the problem. I'm going to call up a few people tomorrow, see if I can get any recommendations from friends. It's annoying more than anything - I am supposed to be studying, but can't read my books!

It's too bad you don't know someone who can check things out. My husband was an electrician for many years so I never have to worry about that kind of thing. What I have learned though, as I said, if it is old wiring, any electrician shouldn't be too costly as it shouldn't take much time for just one outlet. Hope you can find one soon so you can enter the "light" once again! At least you have power, I hate it when the power goes and not only are you in the dark, but sitting with nothing to do nothing to look at utter nothingness!!

Yeah, having no power at all would be much worse. At least I have gas hobs so it's not the end of the world in a power cut. And I quite like reading by candlelight - but only for a little while. I'm not too keen on the dark - silly, I know!

You need one of those "book lights". I've seen them in the bookstores before but never got one myself because I never thought I would ever find myself reading in the dark. Mayhap your experience is changing my mind! They are battery operated you know!

Epona, I'm friends with an electricain and I'll have him on the next flight over! Seriously though, ask around. Maybe a friend or someone from work has a good name for you! Meanwhile at least you have us!

Epona,

Sorry to hear the problem is more serious than I thought it may have been!
Good luck finding an electrician and I hope, not only that you get a good deal but that the problem can be resolved soon!

I'd loan you a flashlight but Rex has a knack for breaking them and we don't own one that works!
