Dragon Wars--might as well have called it Bard's Tale 4
Might & Magic 1 and 2--totally kicked Wizardry's ass
Bard's Tale 3
Phantasie 1

They couldn't have called it Bard's Tale 4. Interplay owned the BT engine but EA owned the title. So you could have had a game just like BT, but called something else, or a game called BT that was nothing like the originals.

Of course, that doesn't mean it wasn't BT 4 in spirit ;)

P.S. Nice to see someone remembers the Phantasie series, horrible though its graphics were.

Since we didn't specify RPGs, here are a few of my favorites from all genres (in no particular order):

Bard's Tale 3-- Best in the series, even if the color-scheme was a little dull on the C-64 version.

The Games Series (Summer Games through California Games)-- Great when I had friends over, since they allowed for up to eight players. I remember some good rivalries on those games.

International Team Sports-- Another Ed Ringler winner (even if he DID use the same sprites for every game he ever made!)

Alternate Reality: The Dungeon-- Brilliantly designed RPG, way ahead of its time.

Wizardry 1-- The most enjoyable Wizardry game in the series, for its time.

Ultimate Wizard-- Infuriating at times, but I remember killing hours with that level editor.

Dragon Wars-- A great substitute for Bard's Tale 4. Actually exceeded the BT series in many respects.

Maniac Mansion-- First game to make me laugh out loud. Great puzzles, too.

Centauri Alliance-- (aka Bard's Tale in space.) Designed by Michael Cranford (BT1 and 2), it was almost identical to the BT series, but yet not quite as good for some reason.

I'll think of more later, I'm sure.

Hmm - My first computer was a Sinclair Spectrum 48 (which I in fact still have - I wonder if that thing still works ).

The only RPG game I remember is The Hobbit: More or less a text based RPG.

I had a lot of other simple games (some of them I made myself), but I do not remember any of them very clearly - oh well I think I remember a '3D' game called something like Ant Attack, where you had to rescue a girl in some town made of 'boxes' and inhibitated by some aggressive ants :D

On my first PC I played a lot of EOB1, 2 and 3

Hmmm...let's really rack the brain here... (no special order)

</font>
 • The Bard's Tale series (wasted many hours there)</font>
 • Pool of Radiance (if it counts)</font>
 • Autoduel (Car Wars game that I wish I could play now)</font>
 • Pirates (definitely one of my all time favorites)</font>
 • Elite (very difficult game)</font>
 • Rogue (simply hack and slash with letter and symbols representing everything (T for troll, @ symbol was you, etc.) but very fun)</font>
 • Conflict (you were the prime minister of Israel and had the objective of collapsing all of the neighboring Arab countries; very politically incorrect these days but great strategy options)</font>
Can't remember any more off hand; I'll have to dig out my old Commodore 64 and look through the games (I remember one about building your own monster and fighting other "built" monsters for cash to upgrade, but I can't remember the name).

<font face="Verdana" size="3" color="#00FF00">Ultima IV is still fun and it is free. Worst part about downloading it is you should search the internet on what reagents to use for each spell and what the spells are and do. I have the game books which are helpful. You had to actually buy and mix herbs to create spells so I guess mages were more like alchemist but very cool.</font>

Whoa.... i remember some of those.... Yeah... pirates was definately cool! Try the new "Pirates of the caribbean" similar gameplay, interface takes getting used to. much better naval battles....

Elite was not hard! unless you really like to enter the 'void', can't remember the name of it, when you are mid way through hyperspace and get attacked by those octagon ships which spawn smaller ones. When u first go against a "Furdelance" (again I can't rem the exact names), they are extremely hard too! Just make sure you get mining lasers all around, forget all those military crap..... ahhh.... you can see where my youth got wasted.....
