I like terran for defense, since I haven't found anything that has been able to get through a wall of bunkers (filled with marines, and on the front lines, maybe a firebat or two), wraiths, and seige tanks (seige mode) with missle turrets scattered in between. Of course, I sometimes need a dropship to get my own troops across my defenses. With brood war expansion, the protoss. If you get a dark archon, you can mind control a SCV and a zerg structure building (or is it mutating?) thing, and end up with medics and ghosts backing up hydralisks and mutalisks with some dark templars and carriers.
Wait, maybe the protoss/terran/zerg combo could beat the terran defense wall! [ 02-05-2003, 08:59 PM: Message edited by: LS0158 ] |
Protoss.

LS0158, Dark Swarm. See it and weep. Terran only got two melee units... the Firebat and the... SCV. Siege Tanks still do splash damage, but against a swarm of Cracklings and Ultralisks... game over.
Protoss is my favourite race to play. Nothing like outswarming the other players. ;) Yes, that was not a typo, outswarm them with Protoss. |
i say TERRAN!! no one beats them with siege tanks

Anything can kill a seige tank in seige mode if it's close enough, so I put them in the back line because of their range and suspectibility to melee damage. Because of the splash damage, I usually have my tanks fire on whatever is in the middle of the group... even my own units, if they're surrounded. I cast defensive matrix on the unit so it takes 1-2 damage for a hit by a seige tank. Protoss shields wear away eventually, and health doesn't come back. What are Cracklings? Archons? The big blue clouds with a strange shape inside? They have around 10 hp, and there is an attack that depletes shields instantly. Protoss use an immobile shield battery. Terrans use medics, SCVs, and science vessels, all of which are mobile. Or do you mean those invisible scythe-using things? My terran defense wall also has missile turrets, which are detectors. Science vessels are mobile detectors, and have other uses. I count a bunker filled with marines/firebats as an immobile melee unit. [ 02-07-2003, 09:45 AM: Message edited by: LS0158 ] |
I have yet to find anything that survives Weaver/Archon attacks..Or Carrier attacks for that matter. I do like terran defence as well though. Pretty tough to get through.

Cracklings are maxed-out Zerglings( named so because... well, sic ONE of them on a building and find out). The Dark Swarm I mentioned, is a Zerg spell that is casted by the Defiler unit.
Firebats are more or less the only reliable way for Terrans to counter a Dark Swarm Tactic, but if you fail to build enough of them when they come, then it is more or less a loss for you at that point. Dark Swarm renders all ranged attacks underneath its' radius useless, even from air units. This is a major problem for Terran as they lack a good variety of melee units( well... actually they only got one melee unit, unless you want to count the SCV ). Dark Swarm is the bane of most Terran players. As for Anti-Carrier tactics... there are so many, it ain't funny. Most of them are pretty cheap to get too. 1) Lockdown 2) Mind Control 3) Statis( Divide & Conquer) 4) Valkyrie( about 8 of them) 5) Plague + EMP( in team games of course) 6) Devourers 7) Battlecruisers( more so when they have Yamato Cannon) 8) Dark Swarm + Hydralisks = Dead Carriers + 0 Zerg casualties 9) Goliaths with their range upgrades( focus fire on the Carriers) 10) Scouts I am pretty sure that there are more, as these are simply off the top of my head at the moment. Dragoons- focus fire on carriers. Quiet lethal.

ZERG!!! The sear fact that they are creepy bugs makes them cool. Of course I have other reasons. Like burrowing. And lurkers. Lurkers are cool.
