*Spoiler*i played a beta version of the game.. its more like an rts than an rpg. you do have a hero and you do get skills to updgrade when they level.. but mostly you build up your base, harvest resources (wood + gold) and build an army to kill your opponents. The game is very very cool!

I've seen the preview movies for Warcraft 3 and I'm very impressed with how far graphics have come in the past few years. Still, I was all excited about the party-system where a hero will gain in skills, experience and all that and recruit units to his cause rather than just being a run-of-the-mill RTS. Its getting old I think. Theres nothing new in the RTS market anymore. Empire Earth, AOE2, Starcraft, Total Annihilation, all follow the same format. There aren't any new tactics, the *tough unit* rush still reigns supreme..

Got to remember, Warcraft 3 is not about an all out and out RTS game. It is a game where you have hero characters supported by several strike teams. This is not about war of the nations, but large-scale guerrilla warfare.

Warcraft 3 will also test how well you can micromanage, because judging from what the beta-testers have said, he/she who do not micromanage, will fall. No more brainless mass swarming in short.

You will have more than enough to handle with all the micromanagement. ;) Trust me, there is a lot. Had the supply been bigger, people would have tore their hair out trying to micromanage a huge army with so many options in real-time.

I'm halfway through the undead campaign and the game is quite enjoyably. Like Dundee said, theres micromanagement involved in the form of upkeep, which drains your gold supply depending on the size of your forces. This is also to prevent rushing in multiplayer.
As for the game itself, what I'm dissapointed in is that alot of elements in this game were rehashed from starcraft (the undead are some combination of the zerg and protoss). It seems like Blizzard have got their games recipe, and they follow it by the book. :(

Just got the Collector's Edition of Warcraft 3, with full Art Of Warcraft, soundtrack, cinematics DVD..
I'm having so much fun playing with the extras I got in the leather bound box that I'm barely touching the game..
