I'm doing a breton male, custom class. A caster with some weapon potential.

Some of my freinds are so expert at class/character building they take all the challange out of the game. My approach is a little more organic [ie, inexpert, sloppy].

Some of the scenery takes my breath away, but the eyes of the npcs are so real [yet set in not-so-real faces] that it freaks me out a little.

Doesn't it just. I stick with khajiit characters for that very reason.

Hey, Oruboris.

There are a few patches to get. There's also a gigantic mod community. Once you take a tour of the Empire, slay a few demons maybe, give it a look. I posted a message that got little attention in this forum (as this is a very un-social and not altogether difficult game puzzle- solving or class- building-wise). It details some of the things that were true then, and from what I've seen, true now.

The base game is solid in terms of bugs, but shallow in my opinion. I modded it into a much better, harder RPG.
There are, for example, several "better faces" mods. I see this is rather old, and wonder why Sever picked on it to comment, but I don't understand how Oblivion's single player basis makes it something that should be expected to receive little attention. You could've linked in your prior thread, you know.

I used Bretons in Arena and Daggerfall, myself. Had I been paying attention here at IW last April, I'd have suggested to Oruboris that he establish a "permanent" game save standing inside the exit grate from the sewer to the City Isle. From there, you can recreate characters all over & still not have to repeat the tutorial segment.

For my second strange ironic occurance for the day: Mere hours after resurrecting this thread with my comment above, i find my game curiously afflicted by the same corrupted ground textures for which this thread was created. Multi coloured maps of cyrodiil instead of ground textures. This is too weird.

Anyway, i can see two possible causes for this. I recently installed the Satellite_Cyrodiil mod which replaces the colour BT_mod map with a true photo-like bird's eye view map (best oblivion map to date ). But i've run Oblivion several times since with no apparent problems...

Second possible cause: The official patch which failed to install half way through. That and one other mod (droppable torches) were the very last things i did before i started the game and encountered the problem.

PurpleXVI - In the interests of isolating the cause, did you do anything similar before you had this problem?

That's what i used to do, but i've since found a better option. A component of Modular Oblivion Enhanced allows you to start a new character from the docks of Anvil with the main quest put on hold until you choose to activate it. You can nominate the level you want to start at and can even choose to start as a vampire if you wish. Very well thought out mod.

After uninstalling, reinstalling and extracting all most of my mods back into the data file (but not activating the .esp files), i tried running the official patch first but had the same error. I didn't install any of the texture replacing mods.. Starting to think the problem may actually be caused by the official patch.. Any ideas?
