ding! that told me enough. go to controls, and go back to defaults. That will fix it. (Then remap again). something went wrong..

If that doesnt do it, unplug and disable any items in your windows task manager--that deal with joysticks or other input devices. but I think remapping will fix it.

you wouldnt have a joy stick pluged into that computer.
a lot of the real old games sometimes would drift because
the joystick was off a little bit.

</font>
I just tried that, unfortunately, same old same old. There are no auxiliary controllers hooked up to the computer, and there haven't been since I reformatted the two drives when I upgraded. The only things in my Windows taskbar are Norton AntiVirus, a printer (through the network), and that annoying Messenger thing. This is really bugging me. I don't think it's a keyboard thing since when I write a character's name, it types fine and as per normal.

Have you checked the official forums for this problem to see if it ain't just you. This way you know where to look.

Well, it seems to be something to do with a joystick controller. There is a line in the .ini file which refers to this. bUseJoystick = 0 is what it should be. Now, I tried this, and indeed, the variable was set to 1. So I changed it, and then when I went into the game...same problem. So I unplugged the GamePad, WHICH I DID NOT REALISE WAS PLUGGED IN. Fixed it.

If you want an exercise in frustration, try going to the Elder Scrolls forums. Not only do topics get buried under people wondering why their video cards don't work well, but there are people there to complain about the fact that you need technical help. Also, there is no search function, which means you have to wade through pages of stuff just to see if anything's relevant.

Glad to hear it Moose. I'm jealous as all hell of each and every one of you, but I hate to see powerful computers and folks possessing Oblivion not get to enjoy it.

As for the forums. Yikes. There's really only one word for people who complain that you have problems (because they don't - everyone's should be working, right?). Trolls. You get to fight some in game at least :D

Glad you got it fixed.

Yeh, no search function is lame.. But I bet they turned it off due to high volume of traffic--I too posted, and by the time I posted it, it was on page 4! wow...

I haven't had but one small fixable bug so far--screen goes black-- but alt-tab and go back fixes it...

Yeah, and there isn't even a real Tecnhical Support forum.
