I have used them several times, and to good effects too.

It takes some aiming though, or you smash your legs off the nearby rocks rahter than in the river. Or you smack a tree and fall down a cliff face and smash your legs. Or you undershoot and crash.

But when on target it is good, skiped out a lot of travel for me.

I jumped from the ruins near vivec to vivec which is a pretty far jump for a nord

I spoke to him before he hit the ground with my Nord Warrior (sign 'The Steed'). You just have to be quick. All he says is 'I don`t want to talk about it' and smacks the ground though.
