Its just the world where Lord of the rings took place. About 2-3000 years earlier.

My favorite story and character in the Silmarillion is the tragedy of Turín, or Mormegil, the Black Sword. I would like to adapt a character with him in mind, yet not an exact copy, that I would have the freedom to play as I feel and not have the restriction of a character that already exists in the book. Good? I would however like to keep the name Turin in as my char name.

Turin Turambar,

Age: 28
Race: Human
Sex: Male
Profession: Farmer
Belongings: A long sword made of black metal, provisions to keep in good health

Background history: Turin was a farmer who lived in the country of Balar. His village was destroyed by Orcs that had killed his family. He returned home from selling grain to find them slain. He joined the survivors on their trek North to join with another village, and then joined the group of defenders of that village. This was still in the country of Balar. He quickly worked his way up the chart of men that showed great courage and strength on the battlefield. He had nothing to live for, so he was never afraid of his own death.
When news got around that some humans had joined forces with Morgoth, he was wroth and vowed to be part of a team that would put an end to the reign of this evil.

This is how Turin has become part of the group.

That's OK.

Well since we are starting to have quite a nice number of players I shall only wait for one of my friends to decide whether he wants to take part and I'll probably be starting the rpg friday or during the weekend.

Got a much earlier reply from my friend than what I had expected so I am going to start it today.

A note about spellcasting. Spellcasting is quite OK up to a certain limit. Since in all of the Middle Earth books there is nearly no mention of scrolls I would prefer if spells got cast not from scrolls, but memorised or from special items. On the limit of spells available per day I would like something between five and ten per character. Spells do not have to be fix, you can devise any spells you want, but only within the limits of reasonability.

To make things clearer I shall give the number of spells each character can cast per day (DM's decision):

Feldorn, Hrolf, Roland, Turin, Kirun none since they aren't spellcasters.
Terias: 8 spells, since he is an expert in fire and lightning magics they count as one spell, other spells count as 1.4.
Therlion: 7 spells, telekinetic spells only count as 0.8.
Bober: 4 healing, 4 lethal magics per day.

If you do not agree or want some things differently I may be flexible.

I agree with your assessment of magic limits, and would like to add that if there be a limit to spells, they need to have some minor fighting ability as well to keep them "doing something", or they would spend all their spells and then have nothing to do except be cheerleaders. What about cantrips. If for example I want to light a candle with my breath, nothing big? I think they should be some .4 or .5 of spell. And what about spells that have a duation which has to be maintained, like my ability to fight with the shortsword from a distance? Some thirty seconds or something?

I only gave these as general guidelines. Bozos your idea is quite good. Minor spells shall only count for half their value. By minor spells I mean spells which do not greatly influence a situation. Duration spells last one hour/cost.

@Larry's idea: They can have daggers, staves, throwing equipment.
