Yep, there are 3 shopkeepers you will have problems with even by boosting your Pickpocket up (I tried at 275% pickpocket and didn't work, most of the others I didn't have any problems on. I NEVER suceeded with that fat old merchant in the copper cornet. I gave up trying on him. The bastard.

I agree i think they must of made it to where you have a VERY small chance of stealing from the fat ol' man.. But you said there are 3 who are the other two.. and i guess the life of crime doesnt seem like for me... (yeah right!)

Yeah i believe there are some npcs thats close to impossible to steal from...even if u have 2xx percent in your pick-pocket ability...kind of takes some of the roleplaying out of the game when restrictions like that appear...

As a general rule and in my experience (I only ever play thieves) a high dexterity and a p/p skill of around 170 will allow you to virtually clear any shoppe and dip almost any NPC's. Bernard is a noteable exception as are one or two others, particularly halflings and thieves. Remember that wearing leather armour immediately drops your p/p skill by 30%, i dont recall if this shows in the visible stat's though. Remember that low dexterity can actually have adverse affects on your thieving abilities.

Sometimes you can just be lucky, my thief wit a pickpocket of 130 after a potion of MT cleaned Bernard out...hehehe, i bet Hendak threw him in the pit for that...or maybe not.
