why do you suppose he want to Duel class Fighter/mage?

Not a choice I would make either! I did try it once, but it was a real pain, and you only get ONE weapon slot, even when you get past the original class level. At least I did.
I prefer a single class Mage or a Cleric/Mage Multi.
