In fairness, how often do you see a duelled cleric/mage? She is a hell of a cleric as well, something people forget.

With Aeri and Edwin in you party and one thief you now have a vgood mage and an excellent one ( I know she can't reach the higher spells, but with potions she can get a multitude of impressive low level ones) as well as a cleric of some ability.

By having Aeri you now get room for an extra fighter/tank etc. Everyone talks up Jaheira as a utility fighter/cleric, but the same goes for Aerie as a utility mage/cleric. I would think bashers would fall in love with Aerie. I have her in my party and she does a hell of a lot of damage....

Alright....here we go again.......(wait....I am doing the same thing.... http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif )
Personally, I think most NPCs are useful, which is dependent base on your current party, playing preferences, and whether you know how to use him/her to take full advantage of their abilities. Since I like the use of magic, and recently reinstall the game without removing the exp cap, I think Nalia is a competent mage for a good aligned party.
Stats wise, for those of you who enjoy math.....Nalia has a total of 87, which is the same sum as Imoen but LESS than 2 other NPCs (Jaheria 88 and Keldorn 89). Now most of us will go, so what? What about the specific stats? Since Nalia is a thief/mage (yes I know she is a level 4 thief, we'll get to that), so naturally this makes DEX and INT most important, and she has DEX of 18 (highest a human can have under normal circumstances, also mean low AC for a mage to begin with) and INT of 17, since she is a dualed class, therefore there should be more emphasis on the INT and INT of 17 is NOT a low number. The only NPC that has higher INT is Edwin (surprise, surprise), and Imoen has the same INT. What about the other mages in the game you ask? Well, Aerie has INT of 16 and so does Jan, but since we are talking about the exp cap still in place (if there is no exp cap, the whole purpose of this analysis will be defeated, since ANY character can become godhood levels), these multi-class mage will ONLY advance to level 13 mage. Does it make a difference between a level 17 and a level 13 mage you ask? Why yes there is a big difference considering the fact that the multi-class mage also have a slightly lower INT. But what about INT enhancing items? Items are out of the question in here since like tanks (which like any NPCs, where applicable, can become a tank when you equip them with the "right" equipment), the same goes for a powerful mages. On a side note, Nalia does have STR of 14....which is considerably higher than a normal mage, meaning she can carry more as a pack rat before you get your hands on the lovely bag of holdings. The only stat that I would say Nalia is low in is the WIS, but who cares, she is a mage not a cleric, WIS is out of the question. Another side note regarding DEX, when compare with all other mages (single, dual, multi class)Imoen and Nalia has the highest DEX (at 18) of all of them, Edwin (10), Jan (17), Aerie (17).
In terms of mage magic, Nalia is probably one of the best NPC available for a good aligned party. With the exp cap still in place only Edwin, Imoen and Nalia can reach the highest mage level. And as a thief/mage, she can use a short bow, with is highly valuable as support for your tanks. Being dualed class, she can also level up faster than multi class characters.
In terms of thief, she is pathetic overall, but keep in mind she is dualed at level 4, meaning 5000 exp points have gone into thief level. This is hardly significant (nor a waste) consider the fact that she can advance to the highest level of mage, you might as well consider her as a full time mage with innate ability to detect/disarm trap (which she is quite competent with, unless you run around with her like a psycho in the middle of a dungeon).
Other contribution she makes is the easy exp from her keep, and if you are a fighter the stronghold is something interesting to have. I know you don't need her, but it helps to have someone who can use a bow/spell together.
One major problem I've found with Nalia (and the reason why so many have discounted her) is the annoyance dialogues she has, yup, that's true.... But if you can take Aerie's whining and Jaheria's nagging, I don't see any problems why you cannot add to the surround sound effects. Overall on the party contribution (which is most important for me), Nalia is competent overall as a mage and a pathetic thief. If magic plays a big part of your game (and you are good aligned) than she is an asset, but if you are looking for a full time thief who can do not just detect traps, find someone else.

I would have to agree with you. http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...miles/wink.gif Toss in a PC that is a Mage or Sorcerer and these three (with two tanks to protect them) can inflict a massive amounts of damage. http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif

Huuraahhh finally some Nalia supporters!!! Go Nalia.
Only Imoen beats Nalia in Mage! Edwin doesn't count because he is evil!!!
I turned Aerie into a Bard! lol

I like Nalia too. She has good stats, dual-classed, and has that awesome Signet ring. It gives her +2AC, +2 saving throws, and 30-50% fire resist (i forget the exact amount).

Jan is the one that blows. He has pathetic HPs, is multi-classed, pitiful stats (9 strength! he can barely carry 10 potions and his own items!) The only good things about Jan are that he is a specialist mage (illusionist) and that his bruiser mates can be useful (although, he can't carry many of them).

I think most the girls are pathetic

Mazzy-What goods a short bow when a fighter can have a long/composite bow
Aerie-Pitiful in combat
Nalia-What kind thief is this? Whiney, irritating, for the needy crap!

Jaheria aint bad when she gets those great elementals.
