Drizzt runs http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif Hes smart enough not to pick fights he cant win. He ran away from hephaestus. Or he could get his girl friend alustriel to help him out http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif

I agree with Mnemoch on ALL his points about Elminster. He may as well have been "Ed Greenwod - God of everything" and have done with. Surprised he doesn't have 25th level monk abilities as well

Yeah but if you got to design your own roleplaying game wouldn't you make yourself the super character of that world? It's not like Elminster swoops in and solves every single problem that happens. He'd rather see others help themselves, either that or is just too lazy. He'd probably get in trouble from the gods for messing around with the balance if he did too much. To answer the question, Elminster of course would win if it came down to it. Drizzt is simply very highly skilled, not mega powerful.

Who'd win: Elminster or Drizzt?

Depends on who's writing the book.

Seriously, this topic (or a variation with different characters) crops
up all the time. The question's essentially unanswerable; it's always
possible to set up a situation where one person can win and the other
can't--and vice versa. The short answer is that the novelists are
unlikely to ever set up a situation where there's serious conflict
between two major heroes of the Realms, so the question is relatively
moot.

If you're entertained by this kind of discussion, great--but please
don't flood the list with it.

This question has been raised so many times at conventions that Ed
Greenwood once jokingly suggested writing a novel where Drizzt and El
would have a little battle in between chapters, keeping tally on who won
the most (and of course losing count--which was even).

Elaine Cunningham also had a comment:

Say there's a soccer match going on. The Dallas Cowboys crash through
the stands, trampling several dozen spectators and inadvertently
breaking up several vehement soccer-related arguments. Their actions,
naturally, go virtually unnoticed until they actually leap onto the
playing field. They are joined by the NY Yankees, who are fed up with
such indignities as urban decay, blueberry bagels, and George
Steinbrenner. They are seriously pissed off and are wielding
non-regulation metal bats. So. What happens to the soccer players?
Who wins the game?

The answer, if indeed there can be an answer, can only be phrased as
another question: What set of rules are they playing by? Oh--and a
followup question: Who's telling the story? That's the classic answer
authors give to the perennial Someone-vs-Someone Else question, and it
applies here well enough.

I used to. Lord Shield was based on me. I use him as bartender, but after the stage he lost the 'me' mentality

According to the BG1 manual, Elminster is the better.
He's a chaotic good human male wizard of the 29th level, while Drizzt is only a Chaotic good drow elf male ranger of level 16.
Now ask yourself who you'd rather have for a PC if you wanted to do some real damage: a lvl 16 ranger (mine's lvl 17, that would make me a little better than Drizzt) or a lvl 29 wizard with all the really neat spells?

Seems obvious enough to me...

Specialising in arcane magic surpassing any human.

I think that old El has the edge in this battle. Although I agree that there is a chance that Drizzt will beat him. Simply because Drows are born with an inner magical resistance that might bring him victory.

But the chances are that he'll be too tired to battle and will probably teleport 100000000 feet away using Dimension Door 3 or something. http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...s/rolleyes.gif

If ANYONE! tried to beat up on elminsters ass, mystra and Azuth would intervene, thats 1 greater god and an intermediate power.
elminster could only move 840 yards with dimension door. I think hed use Teleport without error. and drizzt coudnt resist gods magic anyway and elminster could snuff it out. elminsters not even a belivable charecter anyway.
ALso Drows are innately a magical race and mystra has complete control of all of the weave so she could probably just wave a finger or flare a nostril and destroy drizzt. And drizzt wouldnt attack elminster anyway as they both share the same alignment, even though elminster dont follow it. I cant think of any mortal who could destroy elminster, not even larloch, hes just to powerful.
