I always found Nalia and Imoen worked very well as a team. Nalia was more of a mage, Imoen more of a thief, but the pair of them had access to some deadly spells, with Imoen goosing out on Magic Missiles, Fireballs and all kinds of low-level stuff while Nalia backed her up with all kinds of powerful stuff. Imoen had her shortbow and shortsword, Nalia her staff and sling. They became a kind of dynamic duo...

I think I was averaging about lev 16 when I got her back, and decided to keep her. However, most of my party reached the xp cap well before the end of the game, but even right at the end she hadn't reached the maximum level she could have. She has some good skills, but not the best.
