Yeah, having way to high stats does unbalance the game. I just read in a thread somewhere that according to 2e edition AD&D the average human should have 8's for his stats. Anything higher is a bonus.
Taking this into account, you can allready make godlike chars without tomes or other enhancements. Just by rolling you can get several 18's and a couple 15's to go with that. The highest I've ever rolled was a total of 95 points. Compare this to a PnP char and you are a god!
And if you then slap on some more stat increases during the game you become totally overpowered. Chars in AD&D just aren't meant to have such high stats, because life is supposed to be tough.

Btw, I do rememder that post with the all 25 char. I can't believe somebody actually plays a char like that... Or was he just joking? Oh well, to each his own.

yeah, my bro plays like that. it was kinda like diablo. kill, hack, maim, slahs, burn, murder, destroy, heal , kill, maim, murder....

bit dulll if you ask me, bu he likes it.

there are no tomes available in BG2, although the item preogramming is all there so you could CLUAConsole youself one. all BG tomes are to be found way north of Nashkel, which is north of de'arnise a fair few miles.

Actually, 8 for stats would be a bit low, I believe, for average....something like, say, 10.5 is the average (with possibilities going 3-18). Still though, the point is taken.

They do unbalence the game- Do you remember a while back when some dude wanted his paladin evaluated and all the paladins stats were 25?

Now who let that munchkin out? :D

There are no tomes or manuals in SoA OR ToB. The only time you can permanently increase your stats in ToB is to:

S
P
O
I
L
E
R
S

C
O
M
I
N
G

Use the Machine of Lum the Mad in Watchers Keep.

If you want to play with big stats, use Shadow Keeper to give yourself whatever suits you, but there are already plenty of stat raising items in the game. I mean besides the above mention stuff/spoilers there are.....

Girdle of Hill Giant Strength-- Str 19
Girdle of Stone Giant Strength-- Str 20
Girdle of Fire(Frost?) Giant Strength-- Str 22
Potions of all kinds for temporary stat increases
Ring of Human Influence-- Cha 18
Gauntlets of Dexterity-- Dex 18
Gauntlets of Ogre Power-- Str 18/00
Crom Faeyr-- Str 25
Harmonium Halberd-- Str +1, Int -1, Wis -1
and more that elude me for the moment.

I think there is enuff stat based opportunities already.

I cant help myself.... I have to add the Girdle of Frost Giant strenght- str 21 (also part of Crom Faeyer)
