I know that simply being somewhere with an item WILL trigger events, because when i entered the upstairs of Nalia's keep with an imported 'Hammer+4vs Giantkin),two of the Golems came to life.
I wouldnt want to mess with the 'Defender' for exactly those reasons,so i also would suggest using a different sword.
-Like Accord says,I have also tried many times to change the 'useability'of an item with no success, and believe some items were coded 'deeper'and could only be altered using a HEX editor.

Mmhm, i've had the same problem as you before nonsico, but not anymore, im not sure why tho...What i do now is that if you open two editors and open the file you wanted to edit, use the second editor to copy each "feature" exactly as it is in the original... you get what i mean? Yeah, i've had no problem s at all when i do that...takes more time tho i know...also make sure those things like spell effects and other bit and pieces of code are correct... check everything as elvenly possible.. http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...iles/smile.gif

You may want to check to see if your "Use Graphic" is set correctly. An older verison of the editor would constantly set this to Throwing Axe every time I loaded a weapon and mofified it. I found this to cause the same kind of crash you are seeing. It seems to be fixed in the latest verison of the editor. Hope this helps.

In the editor, where you can enter the special abilities of the item, sometimes those fields fill in with EFF codes specific to the item you loaded.

I would suggest that if you are using Drizzit's swords as a model, you should look very carefully at the special abilities as they are listed. Then go through and delete one of the EFF codes, save the scimitar as a new file, import it into the game, and see what was the effect of deleting that special ability. By experiemting this way, you might be able to isolate the code that triggers you having to surrender the scimitars.

If this gets too tedious, I would suggest following Hesperex's advice.

Idon't think Drizzt's scimitars are actually linked to any .EFF files.

Then the triggers might be linked to parameters or could be linked to the items name.

I'll admit that I'm at work and just giving my best guess. Sorry if I'm adding confusion rather than solutions.
