What about neutral? My solo sorc is lawful neutral and could go with any because characters don't know bodhi is evil until you have made the deal, she could just have been a gothic midget who likes hanging around in graveyards for all you know at that time.

ROTFL ... gothic midget ... i like that ...
What you say true if you are playing the game for the first time and haven't been overtly spoiled by these forums but remember I prefaced my comments with this: "Knowing what I know NOW" - But without the prior knowledge a neutral character could conceivably opt for either. |
I've played BG II many times, and only ever gone with the thieves. Can someone please give me a bit of an explanation as to what happens when you side with Bodhi?

And the vampires, being a new assassin's guild, are hardly what you'd call law-abiding. Of course, neither are the shadow thieves, so in that particular case you might be able to argue that the vampires are more orderly... but it's a stretch, since we all know that vampires murder people for their dinner. |

The 1st is Stealing the cargo that u protect with the Theives (though mook isnt there and there r alot more guards).... next u get 2 frame the shadow theives by murdering a noble and putting a cloak and dagger in the fountain of his house.... then finally u must kill Aran Linvail..... which Involves killing Gaelan for the Key and getting through to Aran... (which the long passage is guarded by Orcs and Air Elemants which makes u wonder how weird the theives really are) and u get the Amulet of Power, the Ring of Prot. +2, Elven Chainmail and a short sword/dagger(dont remember which one) from Arans corpse..... so that is obviously the way 2 go 4 magic items... though the shadow theives are better because expeirience is everlasting.... while u will replace the items with ease...... So in my opinion the theives re a better choice :D :D :D |
As an issue, I see it as a non-starter. After all, if you want to play the game simply to amass the best points, go read a walkthrough and follow the schematic to the letter. What fun, eh? ;)
Put another way: you'll get good items and experience no matter who you side with. That being the case, why try to quantify it? Note that most of your party is very set against Bodhi. Even Korgan is uneasy, and Viconia, displeased. A party led by an evil, power-crazed Bhaalspawn could go with Bodhi, but as a rule, I think most parties would side with the Shadow Thieves. |
i always side with bodhi. fighting in her lair twice just seems boring to me and i find the fights vs the thieves in their souped-up hideout (esp aran) way more interesting than crypt crawling for vampires.
besides, killing arkanis gets me the only +3 throwing axe korgan can use. |
I don't know how legitimate an idea it was, but I sided with the shadow thevies, then pick pocketed eveyone who looked important. :D

Us too, though we never managed to pick Aran... it was kind of Jan's dream... to thumb his hairy nose at all the organized mobster types...
