The last two times I ran into vampire bats on the Arnika-Trynton Road I got a wing. In earlier games, I had the same frustration. Sometimes you have to fight 4 parties of the suckers. heh heh. Mt Gigas is the more plentiful site, but there is an optimal level to be, something like lev 10 +/- 2. The bat vampires are 3? levs higher and can drain you easier. I hold my breath when fighting them, we don't usually have more than 1 or 2 Renewals at that point. I do recommend getting a wing early on if you can, they are harder to find if you get too advanced.

If it's tied to level (very silly, if so), that explains why we had such trouble nabbing a wing. You don't learn about it until Ferro mentions it, and by then we were Templars, and somewhat beyond level 10. Something to keep in mind if I decide to replay the game.

Managed to get one on my first encounter with them, but my party was level 30 so i cant see it being tied to level. Unless i got really lucky, which tends to happen rarley to me in this game.

Yeah, that's a funny thing. I sometimes have 4 or fives of them and this time, at Lvl 22 I have 0! The Mt. Gigas and Arnika-Trynton road locals. would be my first choices. If you do the road, try to camp a lot a night. I think this will get you results faster.
