I did consider asking the doc for medication, but I'm the sort of person who takes medicine only if absolutely necessary. Besides, I think such medicines cause side effects like driwsiness, etc.
I'll give the demo another go over the weekend. If it doesn't improve, then it looks like I'll have to pass up on an excellent title. :( |
I sympathise with you so much! I had this very problem when I started playing, and I was so upset because I really wanted to play. But I can tell you from my own experience that it gets better. At first I couldn't play for more than ten minutes at a time, but as you get used to the graphics, and to using the mouse, you will improve. I think the biggest problem is that you move up and down as well as forward when you're moving if you're not really in control. Also starting off in the monastery is bad I think - it's very dark and confined, when you get to Arnika road and it is open and light it also improves. Don't give up!

Hah, if playing wiz makes you nauseous, be sure to cast 'cure lt condition' on youself!

I know several that suffered from this condition - Aelia has given you her story. Wyvern, the W&W moderator never made it out of the monastery because of severe motion sickness. Personally I like my RPG's first person and realistic, but it's a pity when this sort of things prevents others from the enjoyment of a really good game.

Hayashi,
I too suffered from this condition. I found that if I did not use headphones and played when I was more alert, the condition was negligible. It has taken me longer to complete the game, but I have enjoyed every bit of it. |

I had a friend who was like that as well but when conterstrike became popular, he fell in love with it and insisted on playing it. That twit actually would play for about 2 hours, stop, puke, rest for 1/2 hour and go back at it. He's okay now, quite immune to it, but you have to admire his dedication! Or maybe his addiction..

Try to use the mouse for head motion. If I use the keyboard I have the same problem but with the mouse + KB it's OK.

wow! we were discussing this when the demo first came out in november.
even our dear z-man wss complaining about it. lady nightshade had to completely stop playing also. some useful tips from way back when! V***V |
It's a relief to find that I'm not the only one with this kind of problem ;) . I've had it with Might&Magic 6 and Wizards&Warriors, and now with Wizardry 8. Thank you for posting those links to the older threads on the subject, I'll have to try some of the tips given there.
Actually I can play for up to three hours when I'm at my desktop computer at home, but I'm away on business about 4 days each week, and only have a laptop with me, and I often have to give up after just a few minutes on that :( . It's a pity, I really like what I've seen of the game so far. Any special tips for how to prepare a laptop when sitting on a hotel bed to avoid sickness? ;) Medicines won't help, I'm trying to avoid them since I'm pregnant (but don't want to wait half a year to play ;) ). |
