I had done it before I came here.I tried leaving Vi on the plate,but it didn't work...(Vi is so slim?)Then I used the magic,set/return to portal.The door just kept open with nothing on the plate...

I guess I will create a faerie ninja and try that CoC later.

I may be wrong, but I don't think you can use a thrown weapon in the off-hand while using the Cane.

I believe that Skywalker is right. The game prevents you from equipping primary and secondary weapons with different ranges. So you can't equip the vampire chain (extended) and Diamond Eyes (short) for example. You also cannot equip a melee weapon in one hand and a throwing weapon in another.
