Balance. You must be balanced. And you need to read the manual. Before you play. :)
Understanding magic is important. Not critical, but important. Schools: Priest, Mage, Psionist, Alchemist Realms: Fire, Water, Air, Earth, Mind, Divine. As I've run this through about 10 times now, my refered party will have: 1. Valkyrie (human) (with the Geld the Bulls voice... cracks me up.) This PC uses the Priest spellbook. I work her to restoritive and healing as my spell choices. 2. Ranger (human) (always searchs, therefore the party doesn't). This PC ends up in the back of the party as the game progresses. The Ranger uses the Alchemist spellbook. My main emphasis is the Air and Earth realms of magic. I also like to pick up some curative/restoritive spells but don't waste a lot of time trying to make those areas great. 3. Ninja (humna) (picklocks & fighting) This PC serves two purposes. First, she is the primary Rouge (pick locks). Second, I work this character hard in combat through the early game. This character dual weilds. Nothing like knocking out an opponent with your double nunchucks... I also have the character use bows and throwing weapons. The bow is the missile weapon of last resort. 4. Bard (Dracon). A bit of a bozer for the lack of allocable points, but the breath weapon is handy when you've got a bunch of pests to get rid of. Also, they are strong and have good vitality and don't suffer the negativity of other some other bards races with more points, like Faeries. 5. Priest (Rawulf). I work this PC to DC to LORD. I DC too early according to some. But I don't care. It's my party and I'll dual if I want to. :) I work the Priest spellbook in the Mind, Divine and Earth realms. 6. Bishop (Elf). I like elf bishops. This Character works the Mage, Alchemist & Priest spellbooks. For grins and giggles, I'll dual class any character over, just a time or two. No reason. I just do. |
My current party constsist of:
2 Lizardman Fighters (the brothers Bif and Baf) A Human Monk A Mook Ranger A Hobbit Bard and a Faerie Bishop Haven't run into anything I couldn't handle so far.. My lockpicking ability is ok but not great so at times I spend a while at a lock with several tumbler before they all fall (don't have the knock spell yet). But between the bard and bishop I have been satisfied with my ability to disable my enemies and bolster my ability to slay them. The pair of fighters are starting mow through monsters fairly well and my ranger has recently started seeing crits now and again (sorry, don't recall my levels offhand). One thing I've noticed with this party (which I'm fairly convinced I'll actually play through before wanting to try some different combos) is that they have been incredibly lucky. I've run across much better equipment both in shops, found hidden, and taken from kills that greatly surpasses that from previous parties. I had to reinstall before this party and am playing unpatched (without problems so far), so that my have something to do with it, but I don't really think so. *sigh* But man, I've got some weird party ideas running through my head that I'm just itching to try out.. Grr.. silly game.. They made it too fun to create parties but also to actually play the game so I can't satisfy my desire for both! What a wonderful dilemma.. |
