Spoon you have the right to say anything you want, you dont have the right to make anyone listen. BUT....having the right to free speach doesnt relieve you from the obligation to be polite and to be civil.

You made a direct attack in your first post that I found offensive(The smiley didnt soften its impact to me). I dont like to hack untill I have played my way through the game once after that I appreciate the time people put in to create these editors so I can play around and try some nifty things...

Ok, I've made a few minor changes to the editor now:

Trynnie Race Added
T'Rang Race Added
Umpani Race Added
Rapax Race Added

I've found the offset that stores your current saved position in the game, and I am able to switch between any of the zones, but I haven't deciphered the exact coordinate system they use for storing position yet. Once I get that broken down, I will add a "Teleporter" to the editor as well.

Personally, I like the layout of ObverseReaction's editor more than mine, but I'm not going to go back through and change mine around ;)

Say Tal......where is ObverseReaction's editor? Is that the trainer available at the a-vault?

I tried yours last night and had some problems but will try again tonight (something was hogging or losing memory in a bad way - my 512 MB PC800 Rambus was scraping the bottom). Then again I was working on my kids homework project at the same time

Anyway, thanks for the work and good luck getting it like you want it.

I had trouble with his editor as well and have decided not to use it or any other any more, theres other legit ways to get what you want might take a bit longer bit hey it's a bit easier on the subconscience, plus hey at least if you have problems sir tech will help you out of it as long your legit..oh well just my 2 senses.

Not sure what kind of problems you had Jerry, the only problems that existed in my editor (to my knowledge) were corrected with the second release. As for the memory loss, I don't think that it was caused by my editor since I used all static memory in the code so that I wouldn't have to worry about memory leaks from using pointers or the like. As I stated though, if you have any problems at all with the editor, simply e-mail me a message and I'll either explain what you are doing wrong, or fix the problem if it is with the editor itself.

I'm currently working on an item editor for the game as well to be able to include custom items for your characters to use (kind of an extra perk for those who have already completed the game and such). I should have a beta release of it finished this evening.

Paldarion:

If you have any problems with my editor tonight, shoot me an e-mail and I'll see what I can do for you. I'm trying to make the editor for you guys, the other players of Wizardry 8, so if it isn't working the way you are wanting it, then I'm doing something wrong...

The link to the other editor is:

Mine currently has a few more features, but I like his layout and organization better, it's a bit nicer than all the drop down menus I used in mine.

If anyone has any input they'd like to give towards the creation of the item editor, I am completely open to suggestions.

E-mail me at: netspyder101@yahoo.com or jonathan@perfectweb.org

Thanks!

Jerry:

I play both edited and unedited; twinked and untwinked - depending on my mood. It's nice that Sir Tek offers to fix save games, but I doubt I will ever need this. Being able to try out different things and abilities make editors very useful to me.

I'm sure the use varies with the individual, but an editor isn't about becoming godlike to me - it's about discovering things you normally wouldn't. Some people who ran through the game early on missed an incredible amount of really good gameplay in the side quests. If "winning" is more fun to them then that's their perogative.

I like trying different things. I've started over two dozen different parties and taken about half that many through Trynton just to see how various combinations work at different levels. My "regular" party is completely unedited. Then again, Iv'e done some bizarre things like make Myles a bard and Vi a gadgeteer - just to try out the gadgets.

The only real problem with trying out different things and characters is that each time you have to go through all the early levels over and over and over again. That's where an editor becomes really useful.

Tal's is a neat, clean and useful editor. Speaking only for myself, I'm glad he took the time to make it for our use.

~~tal~~

nice job. the first edition i couldn't get to respond. it kept coming up with "file error"... but i dled your latest and it's quite an improvement.

i have a question. let's say i want to see what a specific attribute does.

i take my char from the sav file, and then drop all the stats to say 25 and take one and raise it to 100. and i don't touch anything else on the page. will that make everything else go away? will all her inventory disappear, along with spell levels and junk? (to get those, i have to choose from a drop down menu and if i don't it stays blank.)

so will those spell levels be non-existent in the new save because they don't pop up showing her current level in the save i am working from? ::sighs:: i hope i'm not confusing you.

or will every single thing i don't fool with remain untouched and stay as they were before i used the editor?

V***V

Talryan 12-09-2001 03:10 AM

Anything you don't change will remain as it originally was.

I've uploaded a new version of the editor that corrects a few minor glitches that caused skills/spells not to save properly all the time.

Enjoy
