Today, is my birthday and I am 61 years old. I am not the oldest player either. I have been playing computer games, especially roleplaying games, for a very long time. Wizardry series has always been my favorite and especially wizardry 8. I have enjoy lurking on the wizardry 8 forums because of the maturity level of individuals and their comments concerning the game. I find these comments to be very useful.

Aw, crap Case, until I got to you, I was the youngest, at 30. The name is MAtt, (the cap A is part of my simplistic signature) from Milford, MA, USA. I started with the grandaddy of all, Pen&Paper D&D. Never serious, but lots of fun. First CRPG was Bard's Tale 1 on the Commodore 64. I'm a sys-admin/IT type; but like the plumber's sink, my computer always needs more help than I give it. I play almost anything, but prefer CRPGs. I'm also a rabid sci-fi and animation fan, and read tons of sci-fi/fantasy novels. I poked at Wizardry in the past (only 7) but never seriously until this one. Wiz8 is also unique, since my dog, Tiberius, as made an appearance as a Rawulf Priest.

Hey there,
My name is Dan, from Chicago and I'm 36. I started out playing on an old Atari 400, then an Atari ST. I know that I played: Ultima (II or III) Bard's Tale Alternate Reality (The City and The Dungeon) [God, I miss those games] and one of my favorites: Dungeon Master. This game takes me back to all of those. It is so immersive and fun. I do get discouraged a lot when I'm trying to get somewhere quickly and I run into another set of enemies, but I'm learning how to avoid them. Too often I run into a massive group of creatures (like TWO groups of 7 creatures!) which bury me completely. What a hoot this game is! Oh I forgot. We are owned by a parrot named Gabriel. She's got more attitude in her little body than most cats and she's got the words and volume to let you know about it! Dan |
Well, I thought there for awhile I was going to be the oldest. I turned 55 in Aug and expect to be playing RPGs for many more years. It's all about being young at heart.
My first game was Zork on an Atari with twin tape drives, talk about state of the art! The best part was you could fix a sandwich while the game loaded and then take a short nap. Wizardy 1 on an IBM with an honest 640K ram and a HUGE 5MB hard drive. My how things change. What doesn't change is the enjoyment of the game. I'm retired from the Navy, working as a 911 dispatcher. I work under a lot of stress so these games help me work that off. If I get cranky on this forum, just ignore me I'm just having a bad day. |
From what's been reported here: Average age of the players is 38.5. Hee hee, I'm just under the average! ;)

I am 23....
Playing games since the Atari 2600 that my father brought in and very much suprised me with. RPG nut that is greatly helped my over active imagination and plenty of fantasy books Just to add I live in Tampa - Florida. Name is Timothy and I go to college at USF (1st year) |
well, i guess i'll be the youngest so far then, i'm 19, will be 20 in two months. I live in Montreal, Canada. Presently studying in Computer Science (though i pass more time playing games than studying lol). Like everyone else, i just love rpgs, however, my passion for rpgs really developped with fantasy books, like forgotten realms or the belgariad. But after i got my first pc and played games like baldur's gate and might and magics, i then played almost every single crpg that came out. Even though Wizardry VIII is my first of the serie, i do like it very much and that's why i joined this forum, so we can all talk about it. So tx to all the great people in this forum.

Okay, my name is Erin and I'm 30 years old. I've been playing CRPG games since Rogue in about 1988 (and still play ADOM), and I've never looked back. I only play first person games that don't require reflexes because I have poor eyesight and just die instantly in any other kind of game! I was ecstatic to find the Might and Magic series (I started with M&M 6) and have been enjoying these newer, graphical games ever since! Also found (and love) Wizards and Warriors, and am really looking forward to playing Wizardry 8 once it gets into the stores here. Guess I should mention here is Victoria Canada. That's the provincial capital of British Columbia, the westernmost province, for those who don't know :)
I'm single (which is probably good as I wasn't very good at sharing my computer with my last b/f) and have two cats. I live in a two-floor condo, and currently work for the provincial government as a financial analyst but am very likely going to be laid off in the next little while as they're cutting about 1/3 of the workforce :-( But at least by then I'll have Wizardy to keep my days filled! |

Age is 38 years, which means that it is unlikely in the extreme that I will ever catch up to a certain princess. ;)

Thanks for posting for everyone else Sultan Mine. ;) Remember, no matter how old you ever get, you'll never be as old as me. ;) Something to feel good about! Hey Saz! Looks like Mordenheim, Mage of Mystra, & catzenpewters brought the average down! ;) |
I think I should post as well. My name is Frank and I am in Mesa, Arizona. I am about the average age at 36 (almost 37). I started with pen and paper D&D, but never really got too far into it. I enjoyed the role playing and loved the fantasy aspect, but it took way too much of my time. (Now look at me!) I fell in love with computers when my school had TRS-80's in the computer class. There was this 1st person 3D-like maze game that I loved to play. My first home computer was a Commodore 64, but I had access to a mainframe one summer and played the Original Adventure that was later named Colosall Caves. I fell in love with the Zork series and even solved one of them in under a week. (I must admit that my problem solving skills seems to have deteriortated a bit. Either that or the puzzles were way too easy.)
I remember when they tried "graphical" adventure games like Kings Quest which were basically text adventures with pictures. I fell in love with Ultima III and could never quite bring myself to play the Wizardry series. (Too much animosity between Commodore and Apple users at the time.) A good friend of mine that I played D&D with introduced me to Alternate Reality. Dan, it is good to know that there are other Alternate Reality fans out there. For a while, I worked in a store that sold Atari ST and Commodore Amiga's and got to play Dungeon Master. I LOVED that game. Our manager would let us stay late at night and play as long as we locked up and we would take advantage of that all the time. Dungeon Master II for the PC was a big disappointment for me, though. I didn't get hooked on the Wizardry series until Wizardry 7, and even then my brothers played it for a long time before I did. When I did get it, I was hooked. I tried playing other games but could never really get into them until Wizards and Warriors came around. I always die on the action games, my reflexes are not what they used to be. Knarfling |
