Yes I remember LOGO, on the Apple II at school. HMMM, Minutes of fun!

Ok, thats enough... Back to modern day..

Howdy guys

LOGO was sooooooo much fun. I remember using it on the old IBM XT's in high school wayyyyyy back in 1993. Some of us students came up with some really cool stuff, but then how difficult (not) was it to use LOGO?

Re: Art Programs?

I usually end up alternating between Paint Shop Pro 8 and Photoshop CS2 depending on what I am trying to do. I don't think there is any single program that is perfect for everything. The old Neopaint prog was my personal favorite for many years until the commercial software became good enough that their slower loading times became worth waiting for.

@Logo: [shudders violently at the thought] That is probably why I stuck with simple text adventures and IF authoring tools like TADS all those years. I'd probably have never graduated to the world of graphics editing and graphically intensive game design if it hadn't been for BTCS and FRUA. Now I even dabble in a little practice editing of 3D models and textures for FPS Creator. Thanks to that initial inspirational nudge from FRUA and later DC I have diversified considerably.

Although that does mean I am spreading myself a little thin I have found that I can often reuse stuff from one type of game I am working on in another. Like crossover resources. Like Manikus' use of DAZ to edit 3d models and textures for use with DC. The creators of Dark Basic and FPSC offer a whole slew of programs like that.

Wow, you resurrected an old thread. :D

Like you, I dabble a little bit in a lot of things. I often think to myself that if I could just stay focused on one of them for a while, maybe I'd actually get good at it. :D

Looking at your sig, ever dabble in the World of Darkness games? :)

@Neopaint - Just looked around for the old neopaint I used to use and couldn't find it anywhere, online or off. It was handy, very small and fast. The version I had was not the 32bit version Neosoft promotes now which isn't free. Mine was sold at local computer stores on shareware bargain bin racks for a couple bucks on 3.5 or 4.25 disks. They were fast loading even with the annoying little animated cartoon character running across the screen holding a sign saying register me! lol. I miss that little dude, even though at the time I hated his guts.

@Manikus - Sorry if I necroposted. I must have misread the dates or something. Yeah I often think to myself similar things like maybe I could actually complete a whole game project if I didn't have so many going on at once. :animated_scratchchi

@WOD - Thats kind of like Gothic Earth or Ravenloft right? I loved those. Still have a few modules and rule books that I consult once and a while too. That and my old Top Secret rule book and module. I used to have the old Aftermath p&p game books too but my mother ripped them up one time [back in 89 I think - lol] when I pissed her off. I consult the D20 APOCALYPSE and d20 Modern manuals for ideas as well.

No problem with the old post pull-up. :) I was just surprised to see some of those names in a DC thread. :D

The WoD games were by White Wolf- they were set in the present day, though they did release a line of historical books. The three main lines were Vampire: the Masquireade, Werewolf: the Apocalypse, and Mage: the Ascension. (There were a bunch of other ones to, like 'changeling' 'mummy', etc.)
I was most a fan of Mage. :) They have a great set of bad guys, The Technocracy. It just reeks of the Illuminati, esp. with groups like the New World Order.
I was/am also a big fan of the GURPS books- Illuminati, Black Ops, Cyberpunk.

I am a programmer who needs to diversify.I only know about basic from self teaching quickbasic (but I know it well enough that I can use VisualBasic). I looked into the basic programming language lately and saw Dark Basic. Is there any freeware basic programming language editor/compilers out there worth anything? Do you recommend Dark Basic?

If you're interested at all in VB, Microsoft offers both VB 2005 and 2008 express editions, for free. My instructors have told me that there hasn't been anything that they've needed to do in the .NET environment with VB that these two express editions have not allowed them to do.

Plus, if I open source my DC editors project, you can totally help me out if you know some VB. :D:D:D
