I just installed Icewind Dale (original) on XP, and that works fine, leading me to believe these are disc problems (they do look pretty bad).

In that case try rescuing the contents and burning backup copies free of errors. IMO though the error about 16bit programmes is a compatibility problem with WindowsXP and unrelated to any disk damage issues.

I tried running the autorun exe. in every compatability mode and still no luck.

Oh, and don't bother with autorun.exe, go straight for the setup programme.

Well, I installed the link 1 and still no luck.
Unfortunately, when I right click on the setup .exe the file stops responding. Thanks for your help though.

Well the good thing is you can get the game again cheap.

Well, at the latest ebay check, I'll probably wind up paying about £15 (total).
