Ron Moore did Deep Space Nine nearly in total--Berman and Brannon went to go ruin--er, work on Voyager instead and in their minds, DS9 was a loss, and not worth their time, so they threw it to Moore to do--which made it so awesome.

Ron is now doing the new Battlestar Galactica, and man is it good.

Thanks Z and Morgeraut for your replies

You know, I love Star Trek, I really do. My favourite TV show ever, yet I never get what fans have against Insurrection. Nemesis was an awful Star Trek film (although a good non-trek-fan film IMO) but I always see Insurrection as a return to the Star Trek values and message.

Ok, there is real cheese which makes me want to shoot the screen ("access manual steering column" springs to mind ) - but its about ethics, it has lessons to be learned, the planet is gorgeous, the music is fantastic. Large parts of it feel like a Next Generation episode for me - I really like it.

Most of the cheesy bits I only cringe a little bit at because you can tell the actors are having fun and parodying themselves slightly. Plus there's some really wonderful acting moments - consider Deanna and Will: I thought their scenes were great, I really empathised with them.

Is it just me?

In Insurrection I disliked all the one-liners, The acting was very sub-par for what I've come to expect from the TNG crew (same with Nemesis) and the plot like you said was one you would expect for an episode, an average episode. a good movie for the TNG crew was Generations (one of the better trek movies), and First Contact wasn't bad either (if you ignore that Zephran Cochran was a human from Alpha Centauri who retired on earth).
