Hehe, I don't think that's Jordan's problem.

He's got a vision of what he wants and I'm inclined to believe he knows how the story will play out at the end. But he's trying to cover too much, trying to cover every single detail. He isn't giving us fluff, junk made up just to make a deadline. My belief is that he's let his vision run rampant, not focusing on the story he should be telling, instead, trying to add all this depth which only serves to detract from the progress of the tale.

Yup. The series gets better as you go on. I thought that the first novel (the one you are reading) started a little slow, but picked up as the story went on.

i dont know , it seemed to start off with some action and got right into the plot. the first quad attacking on the cliff. then the gar, and then meating the wizard and finding out about the seeker, its managed to pull me in rather quickly.

Hmmm... Well, good. I'm glad that it's working for you. I guess that I just think of what you described above as starting out slow. http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif

What I consider a fast start is something like the "Legion of Videssos" series by Harry Turtledove. The premise is that a Roman Legion (well...actually a small, scout legion) is fighting in Gaul and is ambushed by some Gaelic tribes. Both the Gaelic leader and the Tribune of the Legion have these weird swords engraved with Druidic runes. When they clash and their blades cross, everyone in the Roman Legion along with the Gaelic leader are transported to another world. A world where magic lives and infantry is unheard of. Well...you can imagine how Roman infantry (perhaps the best the world has ever known) would make an impact in that kind of situation.

That is a *real* fast start! http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif

I 'm reading both series, Jordans first couple wer great. I started reading # 5 and got stuck....boring. I put it down for a while and comented on the forum that I was stuck. Someone told me to finish it, because the next one is better. Low and behold they were correct, great ending I thought, but as Axterix said, he has lost focus. All in all a good set of books.

Sword of truth....Great books. One thing I did note is that, there are quite a lot of similairites in the 2 worlds. I won't go into it, but let me know and I'll elaborate.

To be perfectly honest I dont like gookind that much couple of reasons

A:his main charecters never ever change Richard is exactly the same, nothing makes an impact, nothing changes the way he thinks, Kahalan is boring beyond belief and I honestly cant say i have even a remotly clear mental image of her.To make matters somewhat worse there painfully good they always go on and on for pages about very high minded MODERN philosophy when the situation would dictate they should think differently( ie get on with the buisness at hand). Charecters should have light and dark, Richard and kahalan are terribly one dimensional as are most of the charecters but there also never wrong its like reading egotistical ravings. Damn but having read robin hobbs farseer trilogy recently and after witnessing the incredible charecter development Goodkind is sickeningly bad. From reading the books Richard and kahalan score all 25s in the abilities and just their endless perfection iritates me

B: The books seem to be written for sweaty palmed 13 year olds, I realise authors put sex into novels to make it interesting but why do we have to suffer through all of the awful mysogynist violence. Most of the sex scenes demean women and dont argue realism after seeing the wax puppet charecters. Its so boring as well i remember this kind of thing being discussed on bgdungeon before and the conclusion was it should be left to the imagination because pornography is for dull People with no minds. I dont object to sex scenes i do object to cruel sexual violence

C: Goodkind suffers from some kind of problem when from book to book the enemey or deadly creature always has to be a million times harder and more evil than the previous ones this might seem aceptable in an rpg for progresive gameplay but in a book it just seems like a series of dick extensions, an example of say the nazgul in Lord of the rings shows that you can keep an enemy deadly and scary throughout a series, but in the sword of truth it goes wizard with subtractive, loads of women with subtractive, and so forth into eternity.

While i could go i wont because im getting bored i will write a good point , some of the minor charecters are good nicci and cara although the way nicci changes in the end should have been done a lot better

Just finished Faith of the Fallen. I think it was the best book in the series so far. I stayed up till 8:AM finishing it, and was thinking about it the whole next day. I'm starting on Hobb now per some of your recomendations.

Glad your liking it slackerboy!
