Periodically meaning "Every time you level up"... It's all well and good to rp it like that and say that it takes a while to level up, but if you really wanted to you could do it all in less than thirty seconds if you got them at a high enough level...

i usually wait till like 5th level.. if your using a spelled character like a mage or even wands (if you can use them) area affect spells will harm your henchmen and your self. If your lucky he he.. (not really) they will come and TURN on you and try to kill you... the best way to get around that is to right click on them and tell them to Stand their Ground. I agree with you, the AI is really shitty in this game. Never have a Panther as a Familiar cuz it will Turn on you for just standing there too long. Happened to me.. i changed to a Pixie never bothered me again. If you do want to use and area of affect spell my advice is either make sure your henchmen is NOT in battle at time of use OR go into Game options and change the way you encounter monsters on the "Difficulty" rating. if you turn it to Normal or the lowest setting your can do all sorts of kick ass area damage and it won't hurt your Henchmen. But beware of being a MAgic user, and the Panther Familiar.. the summoned creatures don't attack you.. they are a spell so thats GOOD.

I have a couple of henchman questions I would like to add to this post.

Is the fee to hire a henchman one time? Or do you pay them each time you ask them to rejoin you. I recently picked up Tomi Undergallows. I needed him in the prison to help with traps and locked chests. I paid him 125 gold to join. If I decided to ask him to leave and then pick up say the barbarian, then decided I need Tomi again do I have to pay him again? Since he doesn't loot do I need to give him healing potions and arrows? Or does he take care of himself?

Thanks for the help.

It's a one-time thing. You just need to pay him once. And no, they have their own supplies.
In fact...
They get restocked every time you get healed at a temple. I took a look at the healing script and it replaces the henchman's potions and whatnots. They only get.... Three, I believe, but I could be wrong. Any more and they have to come out of your own pocket (In the heat of the moment, that is. You try and give a henchman a potion, they won't save it, they'll use it immediately)

Thanks Illumina.

Not that I am going to do it. But I guess it would be possible to edit that heal script and hook your henchmen up. I am sure someone has done that.

Hook your henchman up with what?

browns1977 01-23-2004 05:07 PM

More healing potions and extra bolts/arrows. I dunno I am not sure what is in the healing script you looked at it not me I thought you said they only get 3 healing potions. I would think more would be handy for them.

Perhaps, but I would *NOT* recommend you fiddle with a script like that.
