ah, just give me my trusty composite longbow, and I'll shot em, then I'll charge in and chop em up! Katanas and Longswords all the way! hehe.

Has anyone tried doing called shots to the legs with ranged weapons? If this slowed the enemy down, you might be able to stay out of melee range and shoot them down. Of course, like all special abilities, this would fail against the big bosses (when you really want them to work...).

I use range to soften up my opponents then melee hard and fast (dwarf fighter with greataxe spec. and a comp longbow for range)

as a ranger i use the bow alot, but since the new rules for spell disruption (concentration tests, etc) it is harder to disrupt a spell being cast then it was in BG2/1. I like melee as dual wielding looks cool, does more dammage and in multiplayer gives you a good chance of gettting the loot!
however, i do think that bows are weaker then they should be, although i also realise that they can quickly become too powerfull aswell.
All in all it depends on the situation, but given an equal choice then melee..

I play a Fighter-Druid (13-4)

I use spells for buffing, an Elven court bow while they are far but when everything is said and done I am a melee specialist.

The only problem with this is that often there are many enemies to fight at once. And there isn't enough time to call shot on more than one before they're all upon you. It's a shame, because I like to use my bow :(
