My elven ranger is dual wielding a Namarra Rapier (+2, dazing) and a Feyduster Shortsword (+2, dazing) with Weapon Finesse. This should be a fairly standard comination, because the smith in Ch3 will make them for you from a magic rapier and Dragon Blood (found at the sorceror who captured the dryad) and a magic shortsword (not easy to get, bought from the boy in Helms Hold for 24000 GP) and Fairy Dust (found on the body of Calif, a Bloodsailor). It will cost you 12000 GP each.

i find dual weilding the astral longsword (or any other good medium weapon) with the mace of disruption really effective - rocks against undead.

I really was tempted to use the Astral Longsword, I even had one crafted by the blacksmith but you can't use Weapon Finesse with it. Because my Dex is considerably higher than my Str it works better for me this way.
Maybe it will be even better to use two Feydusters because you can concentrate on shortswords, but I really like the Improved Critical for the rapier (15-20). Drawback is that most (all?) undead are immune to criticals where the Astral Longsword comes into play.

i was going to do something similar, was actively looking on the market for another good short sword/light weapon, but then i stumbled on (completely by chance) a belt of +3 strength so i decided to stay with the medium/small combo.

Should work fine. I prefer to get Dex boosters.
Your method has the advantage of doing two different kinds of damage (slashing and bludgening, correct me if I'm wrong), but I am rather fond of that Feyduster.

I found the Frostbrand in Fire Giants lair in chapter 3, and Godsbane I found of the Baalor Lord right at the End.

Orion... I forget. I think it was in Luskan, not sure specifically. I found it kinda early in the game, though.
