I've played multiplayer in Dungeon Seige and a couple other games but generally am a solo player. ;) Expansion tools would be nice although I'm sure I would never put them through there paces as would other regular posters here!

I saw a November release date on one site but I have no idea if that is at all accurate.

I'd like to buy it, but I'm sure that I probably wouldn't have time to play it till like Christmas break :(

Anyone hear/read further news on when DL will be released???

jsalsb 10-21-2004 07:20 AM

still (quite typically) no news from the developer. vendor ship dates are notoriously misleading - if not wholly made up. still waiting. changing diapers... waiting...

Speaking as a software developer, I can tell you that when I pick a release date, I fully expect to meet it. However, sometimes things come up and the plan has to be revised... that's why I often refer to things in a "quarterly" fashion -- first quarter 2005 is my next release. That gives me until March 38 to make it out... and I mean that

Effective project management can often offset these kinds of delays (thereby showing that I don't always do it :D ). Still, that's built on learning from what happened in the past... and every new round of development features new tools and equipment that make some of what was done before invalid.

The only thing to do is to be patient...

Well, speaking as a Computer Science student...

... I can tell you that all projects will be completed at due_date + 72 hours, and not a minute before :D

Multi-player has made the cut... I can hardly wait

Unfortunately, talk about "I'm toying with a couple of ideas" doesn't make me anticipate a quick release date... :(

Oh lord - reminds me of a project that Jack worked on for a long time. The powers that be kept adding in new features along the development pathway (instead of listening to Jack who advised them to get a version out and then tweak it for the next version) - the result was that they took so long in development their market had disappeared by the time they completed the project. Bad move.

I hope that DL will come out as planned - last quarter of '04!

Bungleau 10-26-2004 11:39 AM

I hear you I just released a version of the software I sell that doesn't have everything I wanted in it; one of the major enhancements isn't complete yet. But it was time to release it, so I took that stuff back out and published the new stuff.

It's a strange tightrope to walk as a developer and as a product manager... I want it to be good, but I can't wait for it to be perfect. I have to get it out when it's good enough.
