Call of home only works in wilderness areas. It does not work in any dungeon, so that just won't quite make it. :(

In all games, once you have the Kerah/Cet confrontation, you're in the pyramid to the end. With the unpatched game, apparently some folks get locked in earlier. I'm not completely familiar with the details, as I play patched. ;)

It is so that once the Kerah/Cet conflict has commenced one is locked inside the pyramid until one has defeated Cet. (That is the same both in the patched and the unpatched game).

When one has completed the game one is teleported back to Brimloch Roon. (That is also the same both in the patched and the unpatched game). In the unpatched version of the game, the lock is still activated, so once one re-enters the pyramid after having completed the game, one is trapped for eternity (since Cet is dead and cannot be "re-killed" in order to complete the game :( ). In the patched game, however, the door is unlocked when the game is completed so that one may re-enter and leave the pyramid at will.

As Bungleau stated, the call of home only works in the wilderness.
