Not entirely. It may be worth experimenting with very late on. There are a few areas with low level undead that are more of an annoyance than a thread, turning may be the fastest way to destroy them (although a fireball probably beats it, that costs a spell slot though)

Other than that, turn undead is only useful when you *really* dont need undead near you - almost dead Tank or whatever. But its not reliable at those levels.

I dunno if this is the same in BG, but in BGII an evil Cleric, when turning undead, will have the undead side with him/her instead of running away/being destroyed.

been too long since i tried it in BG1 but i just thought I'd share my clerical exploits from BG2. I walked into a lair full of vampires, and my trusty high level cleric started turning undead. in 2 seconds there were only 2 higher level vampires left. the rest exploded on sight.

This is excactly the way I think it should have worked in BG1, when a 6th level cleric is trying to turn skeletons - but from my own experience and the replies, I see that turn undead is not implemented that way in BG1.
