My fighter/thief started out with a pretty good roll...I want to say..
Str 17 Dex 18 Con 16 Int 11 Wis 16 Char 7 However I have travelled up and down the Sword Coast and discovered the joy of Tomes. Now I am in the ball park of... Str 18 Dex 20 Con 17 Int 12 or 13 Wis 21 Char 9 So he is getting quite handy...I hope to be able to take him to BGII but I refuse to until I kill Saravok...So far a movie bug in my game has been the problem but I believe that I have that patched so we will see this time. |
btw its perfectly possible and legal to export a char with 25 25 25 25 25 and 25 takes a fair while admittedly, just keep exporting char, run around get items and then import to a new game and so on, atm i imported my lvl 8 guy into a new game to see how fast i can finish it all, going well so far, all the tomes are coming his way so ill have a tanked up char soon
in rp terms just consider him a very well established adventurer who has scoured the sword coast from top to bottom and found every possible item of value and knowledge there is to be found |
If you are really frustrated with the game and can´t seem to get on with it, then trying 2x/2x/2x/x/x/x (x= one number value ) character with the help of gatekeeper can save the price of the game. However, for real challence, put your fighters STR to 13 (like I did on my only game) or your thief's DEX to 12 or lower, and have a go.
It´s true that common sense must be used with some attributes. From role playings view, you shouldn´t put INT or WIS below 6 to any charatecter.. preferably not below 8. Spending your childhood in a place like Candlekeep, you are supposed to learn at least something... Does anyone have any clue which IQ numbers these values measure? I would think 9 is about 90-100, 14 would be 120-130 and 18 would be 150-> . But most likely they are not meant to be compared that way, because they only affect mages. INT value doesnt seem to have much effect on NPC´s comments anyway (take Imoen or Viconia). [ 11-26-2002, 11:59 AM: Message edited by: NiceWorg ] |
I'm with Niceworg on this one. When rolling for stats, I hate to see single figures in any catagory. From a role-playing point of view I try not to go below 10, even if it means giving away points elsewhere. Unless you're creating a special character (like Six) then CHA, INT and WIS ought to be kept to realistic levels. And who needs this 25 x 6 stuff anyway, I had a perfectly nice game using a Bard with stats of 10/15/12/15/8/15.

unless your creating a barbarian type who smells like the backend of a camel in which case charisma of 6 and int of 6 is pretty allowable
oh btw 25 across the board characters are pretty sick it has to be said, the regen rate is lovely but you can still die easily against some of the tougher challenges esp durlags so dont think a char with 25 in all will breeze through the game, oh btw the advantage of import/export to get to 25 (apart from the hideous amount of boring time it takes) over gatekeeper is that if you set values in gatekeeper on stats they dont affect what they should properly, ie you set dex to 25 so that should lower AC significantly, sometimes it doesnt if at all, some kinda bug with it, but if you do it import/export the game adjusts each time so you get the full whack, oh btw using gatekeeper you can have multiple protection types at same time, just never remove any of them gatekeeper should never be used unless you already completed the game a few times, but if you have , its fun to see just what damage you can do |
I love Gatekeeper, even if only from a technical standpoint. My hand goes up to correcting stupid mistakes I've made, for when you drop items inadvertently, or can't remember where you've left something important. It seems a shame to waste a game if you can't find the book to get you back into Candlekeep and you have to start again. My fault I know, but if you edit something in, you can usually redress the balance. If you try hard.
