You don't have to use a proficiency for two-handed weapons...large sword covers bastard, long, and 2-handed.

On one of those history documentary TV shows, a broadsword cut went about 6 inches into a hanging side of beef (no hide on it).

I was responding to the question of what a real sword could do...particularly to skeletons.

The show was a documentary about the Battle of Hastings...he said "What could one of these swords do?" and took a solid hack at a side of beef.
