Are necros any good? I'm getting IWD2 in a couple of weeks and was considering using one in that game. I typically stay away from mages, no particular reason other than they just don't seem to fit in w/ my style of play.

IWD2 is 3e so IIRC you get to choose the schools of magic you cannot cast, in IWD they cannot cast illusion (and if i recall correctly enchantment/charm spells either), but they get an extra spell per level, and enemies recieve a -1 to their saves against necromantic spells cast by the mage (skull trap, finger of death, etc)
