nb. to self: Cannot place 8 MMs in sequencers when only 6 are memorized. Must get some sleep. (maybe even in real world) ;) |
Might I just mention, among this horde of magic-fanatics, that a lvl 40 Monk can take draconis, hand to hand, with only a little difficulty. GWW rocks indeed. Hardiness will be useful as well, and Protection from Acid is a must. Not that anyone would go up against a brown dragon without that.

If you fancy Cheesing this one then a couple of dodgy tactics do the trick. Firstly you can try the old tried and tested Set Traps trick:
Set Traps in the archway that is the entrance to the ruined temple thing. Put you party behind them. Send in a Planetar, who will have no problem with Draconis's earlier form. Draconis then kills the Planetar as a dragon and stalks after your main character, in the process he walks over the traps. If you have enough of them this should do the trick. Or you could try the Polymorph option: Acquire a scroll of the Level 9 Polymorph spell, trun yourself into a Mind Flayer. As you kill Draconis through intelligence drains he won;t turn into a dragon - he will just die instantly. Also he will fight you as a human, in which form he cannot damage a mind flayer. Both of those are incredibly cheesey though, not recommended for anyone with any amount of self-respect. Good if you are really bored of fighting him though. Other than that I can only reiterate what the others have said - true Sight is incredibly helpful. Keep casting it over and over, use loads of Summons, Greater Whirlwinds, sequencers, etc. Just buff like crazy and throw absolutely everything at him. Its surprising how much of a difference a bit of preperation makes. |
one trick to use is to not waste to many spells on him in human form, send in a well armed tank or as mentioned a deva, while your mage casts a simulacrum to prepare for the dragon. getting his resistance down is the only way. also the warding whip is a good spell to use. Keep your hero back away from any damage and if he is armed with a good sling/bow you can pop him from a distance once THE RESISTANCE IS DOWN! Keep your mage and hero away from the dirty stuff at all times!

I don't think Polymorph is cheesy - it's a level 9 spell, and is meant to be powerful. Where will 'cheese' stop? Is using every effective spell 'cheese'? How about we call Magic Missile cheese because it happens to come in useful once in a while?
I guess we'll all be relegated to trying to get through the game using Vampiric Touch next, lest we be accused of giving it the Edam ;) [ 11-27-2002, 03:31 PM: Message edited by: Bardan the Slayer ] |

Exploiting traps is also cheese - does anywone believe that a dragon is going to sit still while a thief rings it in lethal traps? |
Quote:
1) You can set all your Traps on one spot (making a stack, what, 3 feet high? Gee, no enemy's gonna see that) 2) Traps ignore things like Stoneskin, Protection from Magic Weapons, & physical resistances Combine these 2 tricks together, and no enemy even has a chance. THAT'S why Traps are cheesy: Not because they're powerful, but because they can be abused to remove all challenge from the game. You can't say that about Magic Missile. |
