No, it could be because your reputation isn't high enough...

Reputation definatly does alter your chances, I know because......

1) I played a LG Monk with 25 CHR but couldn't convince him to help me!
2) I then repeated with a higher reputation, and he joined me!
3) It says so in Ascension's ReadMe!!!!! ;) :D
