Aerie.

Ok, with all of the discussion here, I think the way to go would be the Half-Elf Cleric/Ranger. And, to answer True_Moose, no I'm not going solo. While that may be true in PnP, I'll consider them my Henchman .

I'm going to try to do all the quests (well, most anyways, ones that fit the character) and I'm going to try to go relatively quickly too. I'm going to try to role-play my character while still not dying. This is gonna be tough.

I'm a little nervous about starting this game though, 'cuz like I said, if I die ONCE it's all over, and I MUST prove to my friend that it CAN be done LOL! Well, wish me luck

Oh, and about this elves not being resurrected thing, in normal AD&D rules, that is correct, well, the raise dead spell can't anyways. However, in BG elves CAN be raised, it even says that specifically in the spell description.

Just a little note......

If I were playing this game, I would allow myself to Reload if:
1) My main character got Imprisoned, and there's a good chance that my party members would be able to Free me within a reasonable amount of time, or
2) My main character got Petrified, and there's a reasonable chance that my party members would be able to Stone to Flesh me before my statue got shattered.

It's not your fault that the game has those "bugs."

Hello,
paladin (undead hunter) and work those NPCS really well, or a straight mage and stay well back, with protection spells ready, ready ready! Also possible: cleric you stays back with spells and slings...

Hmmmm..... I'm gonna have to ask my friend about that one and see if he'll see reason with that one... I totally agree with that point of view... perhaps only if I had items/spells that would cure those things on hand or if they could be acquired relatively quickly. I'm DEFINITELY going to have to ask about that. Anything to save me a lot of grief later on ;)

completely agree with cleric/ranger

What henchmen would stay with you if they took the brunt of the damage while you stay back?

Ummmmm......... MY HENCHMAN!!! LOL! But if I'm staying in the back and supporting them with w/ protection/healing spells that wouldn't really be just sitting there, and I'll throw sling stones too, so I'd definitely be helping in the fight. I'd understand if you played as an Abjurer using the tactics presented by Dundee, then they'd have a problem. Besides, I'm sure I'll go into melee plenty.... just not when there are big things with huge weapons that will easily turn me to goo (as the ogres say "We will crush! Crush you to goo!!!"). Besides, if your henchman was a warrior and you were a mage, would they blame you for not going toe-to-toe? I don't think so. Or how about an archer shooting arrows from the back? Again, not likely they'd leave just because you're using your class abilities. Besides, who ever said that the NPC's know exactly what your class is? They might just think I'm a cleric, not a cleric/ranger....
