If there are enough potions to crank up your INT for the purposes of getting a good %chance to scribe spells (and boy & howdy, there certainly are enough), then those same potions will also serve the purpose of raising your INT to be able to learn more spells per level.

Even though it makes all the sense in the world, that rule is not implemented in the game. Your pureclass Mage can walk around with a feeble 9 INT and still be just as effective a spellcaster as if he were twice that smart. According to BG, INT only matters while you are in the act of scribing spells. And for Lore and some conversation responses. </font>[/QUOTE]Arrrgh! Now you tell me. That will teach me to believe what it says in the book and not test it. My favourite archane spell caster is a sorcerer, so int does not matter. Imoen I stick in Lom's machine for the extra int point, and I've never taken Aerie through ToB just because of her 16 int. I've had her cast time-stop etc from scrolls at the end of SoA. You'd have thought that I would have tested the rule out just once! ***walks away to find a wall to bang my head on"""

It wasn't implemented with clerics either in BG2. Neither was the % spell failure for clerics (look at Minsc with his wisdom).
